There is a simple formula for monetizing a list
List + A Relationship with That List + Marketing to That List = Profits
This is the formula in its most basic form. There areĀ a few other components. Such as the need to have a targeted list. The list must be responsive. And a few other factors. But for the most part, that’s the ticket. Honestly, I haven’t seen a training program that doesn’t describe the keys to list building in this way at some point.And yet, so often Internet marketers fail to build that relationship. You see, they get caught up in ‘building a list’ and marketing to that list.
List + Marketing to That List Without Building a Relationship = Unsubscribers
It’s widely known and yet still missed by many getting started and even some that have been in the field for quite a while.
Subscribers don’t want to be sold. They want valuable information. They want useful information. And they want relevant information. They then want to make the purchasing decision. But if they have no idea who you are, where you are coming from, or where you are going, that decision will be made pretty quickly.
Why won’t your list make you money? Because you have failed to provide value and build a relationship with your list members.
So go ahead and get your members involved. Let them get to know you – get personal.
Some suggest to follow an 80/20 guideline… 80% valuable and interesting content and about 20% marketing. I don’t know if that’s the right breakdown, but it seems reasonable. Find the right balance, study and track your responses and you will find what works.
Just remember to keep building that relationship, and you won’t have to ask the question on this post.
